Professor Dr. Syed Akhter Hossain Appointed as Dean at UCSI University Bangladesh Branch Campus

UCSI University Bangladesh Branch Campus is proud to announce the appointment of Professor Dr. Syed Akhter Hossain as the new Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Digital Innovation (FCSDI). An internationally acclaimed computer scientist and AI expert, Professor Dr. Hossain officially took on his new role today, September 1, 2025.

Professor Dr. Hossain is renowned for his groundbreaking research in artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and agent-based AI. He brings decades of experience in education, research, and technological innovation, with numerous international publications—over 250 in total—and a strong reputation for advancing science and technology in Bangladesh.

Prior to this appointment, he served as Professor and Dean at the Faculty of Science and Information Technology at Daffodil International University. His notable innovations include the Bengali Braille Machine, which has significantly improved education for visually impaired students in Bangladesh. His remarkable contributions have earned him several awards, including the Digital Innovation Award (2011), National ICT Award (2016), and the Best Professor in IT Award from CISO-Asia (2012).

Professor Dr. Hossain is an alumnus of Rajshahi University, with post-doctoral training completed at Lumière Lyon University in France and an academic fellowship from Linnaeus University in Sweden. His research work has earned him a Google Scholar over 3,000 citations worldwide. He has also been honored as a top researcher by the AD Scientific Index and received the ACM DeBalsi Award in 2022 at the 42th ICPC World finals.

His appointment was warmly welcomed by the university’s senior management, including Registrar Professor Dr. Shah Samiur Rashid, Deputy Registrar Syed Lubaab Rahman, faculty members, and student representatives.

Through his visionary leadership and innovative research, Professor Dr. Hossain is expected to play a vital role in elevating UCSI University Bangladesh’s academic and research excellence.
