Three people were killed after a battery-powered auto rickshaw lost control over its steering and collided with truck in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj.

The accident took place on Tuesday (August 12) around 1:45 pm on the Gobindaganj-Dinajpur road near Kholshi Mousumi Petrol Pump in the municipal area.

Two of the victims died on the spot, including the infant, while another succumbed en route to hospital. Their bodies were later taken home by relatives.

According to eyewitnesses the truck was coming from Dinajpur towards Gobindaganj when the passenger battery-powered auto rickshaw was heading in the opposite direction. As it passed the Mousumi filling station, the rear left wheel detached, causing the rickshaw to skid uncontrollably into the path of the truck.

In addition to the fatalities, seven others, including the infant’s parents and the rickshaw driver, were injured and admitted to hospital. Doctors confirmed the critical condition of the rickshaw driver, Sajib Mia, and passengers Rupali Begum and Zakia Begum.
