Two people were killed and at least seven others injured in a collision between a bus and a trolley at Notun Shikarpur area of Uzirpur in Barishal today (December 24).

The incident occurred around 6 am on the Dhaka-Barishal highway.

The fatalities are identified as the trolley driver, Sohrab Kabiraj, and his assistant Rubel Hawladar.

Jafar Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uzirpur Police Station, confirmed the matter.

He said a Dhaka-bound bus of Sakura Paribahan from Barishal collided head-on with a trolley (three-wheeler type) coming from the opposite direction, leaving the trolley driver Sohrab and his assistant Rubel dead on the spot.

At least seven passengers on the bus were injured and have received local medical attention, he also said.

The authorities have seized both the bus and the trolley, and OC Jafar Ahmed said, adding traffic flow on the highway has been restored.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident, and legal actions will be taken accordingly, the OC added.
