Rumky Wins Prestigious OPSG Award 2025

Celebrated artist Hasura Akther Rumky has been honored with the OPSG Award 2025 at the 10th Annual Art Exhibition titled “In Search of Peace and Harmony.” The exhibition, a highly competitive national-level event, was jointly organized by Abinta Gallery of Fine Arts and the Oriental Painting Study Group (OPSG).

This prestigious exhibition, held annually, is one of the most significant platforms for artists in Bangladesh, attracting hundreds of submissions from across the country. A rigorous selection process led to the final showcase of 54 outstanding artists, representing a diverse range of artistic styles and themes.

The award ceremony took place on January 18, 2025, at Abinta Gallery of Fine Arts and was attended by distinguished guests, including renowned international artist Monirul Islam, Anis A Khan,a member of the board of Governors , Society for Promotion of Bangladesh Art. Eminent artist Samar Majumdar, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka, Prof. Dr. Azharul Islam Sheikh, founder of HerStory Foundation, Zerin Mahmud Hossain, and Mikhail Idris Islam, Chief Advisor of OPSG. The event was presided over by Neeloo Rowshon Murshed, Chairperson of Abinta Gallery of Fine Arts.

The OPSG Award is one of the most sought-after honors in Bangladesh’s contemporary art scene. Hundreds of talented artists submitted their works, but only a select few were chosen after a meticulous evaluation by a panel of esteemed judges. The competition aims to showcasing a diverse range of artistic expressions rooted in Bangladesh’s folk heritage, royal traditions, and contemporary oriental painting techniques and recognize innovation, technical excellence, and artistic depth.

Among the five artists awarded this year, Hasura Akther Rumky stood out for her exceptional creativity and mastery of materials. Other recipients of the award included Nazmul Haque Bappi, Saurav Ghosh, Shahanur Mamun and Md. Badsh Harun-Noor Rashid. Each artist was honored with a commemorative plaque and a monetary prize.

Hasura Akther Rumky is an accomplished Bangladeshi artist, known for her distinct artistic vision, innovative techniques, and deep emotional expression. Her work often explores themes of human connection, memory, and identity.

She completed her BFA and MFA from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka and has since built a remarkable career, blending traditional and contemporary elements in her art. Her expertise spans various mediums, including pastel, acrylic, charcoal, and natural pigments such as soil from her homeland.
