Salahuddin Ahmed, BNP standing committee member and Home Minister, has indicated that the first session of Bangladesh’s 13th Parliament could be held on March 12 or a few days earlier.

During the first session, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected. Interim government ordinances will be presented, along with condolence motions. According to the Constitution, the President must convene the first session within 30 days of the gazette publication of election results, usually based on the Prime Minister’s written advice.

The 13th parliamentary elections and referendum were held on February 12, with gazette notifications issued the next day. Newly elected MPs took oath on February 17. BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has been elected parliamentary leader and has begun government formation.

Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been appointed Leader of the Opposition, with Deputy Leader Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, and Chief Whip from the National Citizens’ Party Md. Nahid Islam.

This session will mark the formal start of parliamentary activities and set the stage for legislative work and political coordination.
