Where Will the New Prime Minister Live? Uncertainty Over Official Residence

Following the formation of the new government, uncertainty remains over the official residence of the new prime minister. Traditionally, the Prime Minister’s House (Ganabhaban) served as the official residence, but it has now been transformed into a memorial museum. As a result, discussions are underway about whether the prime minister will move into Jamuna, the current residence of the Chief Adviser.

Officials from the Housing Directorate and Public Works Department said no formal instructions have yet been issued regarding the prime minister’s accommodation. Without a final decision, renovation and security arrangements have not begun. They emphasized that the matter largely depends on the prime minister’s personal choice and administrative considerations.

Bangladesh has around 71 government bungalows and residences for the prime minister, ministers, and opposition leaders, mainly located in areas such as Minto Road, Bailey Road, Dhanmondi, and Gulshan. Authorities said arrangements will be finalized soon after the oath-taking ceremony. Analysts believe that the choice of residence will reflect not only logistical priorities but also the new government’s administrative outlook.
