Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has visited erosion-prone areas along the Teesta River. He was accompanied by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, along with senior officials from the Water Development Board and the local administration.

On Monday afternoon, they inspected severely erosion-affected areas of the Teesta River near the Kaunia Bridge in Rangpur.

Speaking to the media after the visit, Ambassador Yao Wen said that China always wants to stand by Bangladesh in its development and disaster management efforts. “We are paying serious attention to the problems faced by people living in the Teesta River region. This visit will help us formulate future plans. We hope that the Teesta mega project will be implemented very soon,” he said.

At the same time, the Chinese ambassador reaffirmed China’s commitment to completing the ongoing technical assessment as quickly as possible. He also reiterated his government’s continued support for Bangladesh’s ongoing democratic transition process.

Earlier, on Sunday evening, the Chinese ambassador arrived in Rangpur, where he paid courtesy calls on local political leaders and activists.
