Turnover rises as stock market index gains

Trading ended on a positive note on Sunday, the first working day of the week, as market indices rose. Trading volume increased on both the country’s main stock market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), and the Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE).

This information was confirmed by sources at the DSE and CSE.

Market analysis shows that on Sunday, the DSE’s benchmark index DSEX rose by 76 points to stand at 5,035 points. Among the other indices, the Shariah Index gained 13 points and the DSE-30 Index rose by 26 points, closing at 1,009 and 1,939 points respectively.

On the day, shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 474.09 crore were traded on the DSE, marking an increase of nearly Tk 94 crore compared to the previous trading day. On the previous day, the DSE recorded turnover of Tk 379.80 crore.

A total of 395 companies’ shares and mutual fund units were traded on the DSE on Sunday. Of these, prices increased for 174 companies, declined for 134, while prices of 87 companies’ shares and mutual fund units remained unchanged.

Meanwhile, the overall index of the Chattogram Stock Exchange, CASPI, rose by 165 points to stand at 14,087 points.

On the CSE, out of 163 traded companies, share prices rose for 97, fell for 47, and remained unchanged for 19 companies.

On Sunday, shares and units worth Tk 7.45 crore were traded on the CSE, which is nearly Tk 1 crore higher than the previous day. On the previous trading day, the CSE recorded turnover of Tk 6.72 crore in shares and mutual fund units.
