Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has expressed hope that the 13th National Parliamentary Election to be held in the first half of February.

He expressed this optimism when German Ambassador to Bangladesh Rüdiger Lotz paid a courtesy call on Tuesday at his Secretariat office.

During the meeting, they discussed public reactions following the verdict against Sheikh Hasina, the possible timeline for the national election and overall preparations, prisoner extradition, cybercrime, the law-and-order situation, and other matters of mutual interest.

Welcoming the German envoy, the Home Adviser said Germany and Bangladesh are long-standing and reliable partners and expressed hope that bilateral relations would further strengthen in the near future.

When asked about the election schedule and preparations, the adviser said, “We hope the election will be held on time. However, fixing the exact day and date is the sole responsibility of the Election Commission.”

Regarding the situation following the verdict against Sheikh Hasina, the adviser said the law-and-order situation remains normal.

“Except for a few isolated incidents, the situation is calm. Anyone attempting to disrupt public order will be dealt with firmly.”
