Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has stated that the national election will be held at the scheduled time in February, asserting that there is no apprehension or uncertainty regarding this.

He made the remark while speaking to journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday (October 3) night, upon returning home after attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.

Mirza Fakhrul said, "We will prepare as instructed by our leader, Tarique Rahman, focusing on the 2026 election with the aim of restoring democracy."

He further added that the process of democratic transition in Bangladesh, facilitated by the election, has the support of the entire world.

Regarding his trip alongside Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus to the 80th UNGA session, the BNP Secretary General commented that the visit was "highly successful." He noted that the side meetings held in addition to the UN session, particularly those with expatriates, were "very beneficial for Bangladesh." He concluded, "Overall, it was good for democracy."

The BNP leader mentioned that the Chief Adviser had invited representatives from several parties to join the trip to demonstrate national unity, which has had a "positive impact on Bangladesh."

When asked about the unpleasant incidents involving Awami League supporters at the New York airport, he dismissed them, saying, "It's not a major issue. We don't view it as significant. Such incidents have occurred in Bangladesh in the past. Creating such problems is part of the political culture of the Awami League."
